Celebrating the life of
John David Humphreys
February 26, 1939 - November 17, 2025
John D. Humphreys, 86, died peacefully on Monday, November 17th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born in New Jersey, the son of Joseph and Grace (Masterson) Humphreys, and raised in Scranton, PA, and Daytona, FL. He served in the United States Marine Corps before attending the University of Florida, where he received a bachelor’s degree in forestry. It was there that he met his wife of 55 years, Marie Donovan of Buffalo, NY. In 1970, John and Marie were married and moved to Georgia, where they raised their three children. John retired from Georgia-Pacific after a 30-year career in land management.
His love of the outdoors was evident early in life through his achievement of the rank of Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. Throughout his life, John enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. In retirement, he devoted time volunteering – as a board member and cooking meals at the local community kitchen. His love of cooking was especially cherished by his grandchildren, with whom he shared countless lessons and treasured memories.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Humphreys.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; daughter, Kim Chamberlain (Neal) of Savannah, GA; son, Kevin Humphreys of Victor, ID; daughter, Karyn Humphreys of Jackson Hole, WY; Granddaughters, Emily and Sarah Chamberlain; and nephew, Sean (Hope) Humphreys.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Saint. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Hospice Savannah, PO Box 13190, Savannah, Georgia 31416 or any cancer related charity of your choice.
